As of 2024, the European club championship will be awarded based on teams’ continental performance rather than club coefficients. This will mean that the two best-performing European associations will get an additional Champions League spot each, in addition to the team ranked first in their association.

The proposal was controversial, but has now been confirmed by UEFA. It also does away with the “historic” places that would have been dished out to teams with strong personal coefficients, irrespective of their country’s performance on the continent annually ŕ¸Şŕ¸Ą็อตยูฟ่า.




1. UEFA Slots – Access Rules

The new access system for UEFA’s club competitions from 2024 onwards is now finalized, following a long-awaited consultation process. During the course of this consultation, a number of stakeholders in the game raised their concerns over the new access system, and it has been resolved to offer an alternative which is more fair for all clubs competing in Europe’s top club competitions.

2. UEFA Slots - Qualification for the UCL

The UCL qualification process is divided into two phases – the Champions Path and the Europa League. Each phase has its own set of criteria and a qualifying round.

To qualify for the UCL, a Club must win its home and away matches against the teams in their group. The winner of the Group Stage will then progress to the quarter-finals, where they will face a club from one of the other groups.

3. UEFA Slots - Qualifying Criteria

The UEFA Qualification Criteria is an essential part of the UCL qualification process. It aims to determine the best-performing European Clubs, and will allow them to enter the Champions League with confidence.

4. UEFA Slots – Access List

The new UEFA slots list will be published in April 2020, ahead of the start of the 2021/22 season. The list will be based on the clubs’ performance in their respective domestic leagues, but it will not be based on club coefficients or the performance of individual players.

5. UEFA Slots – Relegation Scenario

A Club will be eligible for a relegation place from the competition only when its position in the relevant division has been determined at Step 1 or 2. In cases where the vacancy occurs before the end of the Playing Season, Clubs who have achieved a lower placing than their team in the relevant division will be eligible to enter the Competition’s other divisions on a points per match ratio.

The UEFA Europa League is an international soccer tournament organised by UEFA that is played every year between teams from across Europe. It is the highest level of football in the European Union and draws teams from the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and the other major European leagues.

7. UEFA Slots – Entry Fees

In order to enter the UCL, a Club must meet the requirements for entry into the competition and pay a qualifying fee of €1 million. The fee is payable in advance of the competition and must be guaranteed to be paid, or the Club will not be allowed to enter the UCL.
